Overview

Grouse Mesa Outfitters specializes in horseback elk hunting. We operate on private land near Chama located in northern New Mexico's pristine mountains. The property, a 7,000 acre cattle ranch, and the surrounding area host a large population of elk. Currently, the statewide price for a private land bull elk tag is anywhere from 6 to 10 thousand dollars. We will sell our rifle bull tags at the low end of that spectrum. Our services will provide a quality hunt in a wilderness atmosphere using horses while enjoying the comforts of a cabin. We will pick our clients up at a meeting point and transport them to the cabin for a 5 consecutive day hunt, with 6 nights lodging and meals provided. Each hunt will be guided with 1 guide for every 2 hunters. We will transport the hunters’ game back to the cabin via horses and store it in a clean and safe spot for the duration of the hunt. At the end of the hunt we will transport the hunters and their game back to the meeting spot. The cabin, base camp, is a large spacious building with a western style bunkroom that holds up to 12 persons. There is also a smaller private room available. We have a very capable cook who prepares only the best of meals. Grouse Mesa Outfitters is for any person looking to experience a quality, highly successful elk hunt on horseback in the western mountains without the high volume of competition on public land. We have 2 archery seasons in September and 4 rifle seasons in October. The number of elk tags is limited so the sooner you book your hunt the better.
